Myra Hindley (23 July 1942 – 15 November 2002) was a British serial killer. Along with her accomplice and lover, Ian Brady, she was responsible for the notorious Moors Murders, a series of abductions, sexual assaults, torture, and murders of five children and teenagers in the 1960s.
Crimes: Hindley and Brady targeted vulnerable young people, luring them to their deaths. The victims, Pauline Reade, John Kilbride, Keith Bennett, Lesley Ann Downey, and Edward Evans were subjected to unimaginable cruelty. Evidence of the crimes was found on Saddleworth Moor, where some of the bodies were buried.
Trial and Conviction: In 1966, Hindley and Brady were tried and convicted of the murders. Hindley was sentenced to life imprisonment.
Later Life and Appeals: Throughout her imprisonment, Hindley made several appeals for parole, claiming to be rehabilitated and no longer a danger to society. These appeals were consistently rejected. The public remained largely opposed to her release. Her attempts to distance herself from Brady and portray herself as a victim of his influence were largely unsuccessful in swaying public opinion.
Death: Myra Hindley died in hospital in 2002 at the age of 60.
